When people say "go to your happy place," do you imagine your bed? I do. There is no place I'd rather be than home, and most likely in bed eating a snack. It's just my reality, guys. My husband will say the beach, as many would. I get it - the sound of the waves, the sand in your toes... and then the clean up when you leave the beach and you find a couple grains of sand in your ear 2 weeks later.
I do get cabin fever occasionally on long breaks like winter break or a week-long Jewish holiday (one in the fall, one in the spring). But even with that, I will choose my bed and netflix or a good book over going out, 99% of the time.
So basically, COVID-19 has been testing me daily.... will I still love being here after a few more weeks? Months? When I realize the cleaning lady can’t return and dust is rapidly gathering? If you want to challenge me and compromise my lifelong personal happy place, just put me in my house 24/7 with two miniature humans and see if I can clean up as fast as they make messes. I’m trying so hard not to let my sacred place become a prison. But it takes huge personal effort, a small touch of a Type-A personality, a constant mental to-do list, and a helping husband that chips in - for both love and fear. 😂
I spend the early evening getting my kids to bed and then resetting my house to look like no one was here today. It isn’t always perfect and doesn’t mean it all gets done every night consistently, but I have been making a huge effort to do a few dishes, tidy up the toys, plus maybe one other agenda item. Maybe the wild card goes to doing one load of laundry, or placing an Instacart order... tonight I did an hour of gentle yoga with my colleagues via Zoom. #selfcare #imsooutofshape

Although it’s hard to live in a constant state of “fixing” my surroundings, I walk room to room looking for what needs to be done so it saves me time later. I don’t always love that I am doing the clean up but I feel so much more relieved when I can get into bed at 10:30 and actually close my eyes. Or write this blog post.
What’s your happy place? I am praying mine will always be home.
Love and laughter,

I really understand your bed being your Happy Place. I had never thought of it that way until after my first back surgery when my bed did not seem to be comfortable anymore.
I told my husband that I had tried every position for weeks and I needed help. So we started the search for a new mattress. We got lots of recommendations and we tried and tried to find the place I could call home, but without success. One mattress I bought and returned, another I bought and gave away. Then my friend told me about the Number bed and my life literally changed. That was about 15 years ago.
Amanda, you are right on the mark. I believe for me, my bed is a happy place, to snack, watch TV, use my favorite smelling hand cream, to snuggle and to sleep.
